diy cloth baby wipe solution

homemade natural cloth baby wipe solution

cloth wipes aren’t as high maintenance as they sound

I love using cloth wipes even for my potty-using toddler when the moment arises. Rough and dry toilet paper is just no fun for baby bottoms (or really anyone’s bottom if we’re being honest). I subscribe to a cloth wipe service along with my cloth diapers, but I have also purchased a stack of my own that are very easy to toss in the wash.

When it comes to newborns, a bowl of warm water will do. Soap can be extremely drying to that fresh baby skin, and there’s really no need. A warm water wipe followed by a dry pat is going to lessen their chances of any irritation. For older babies and toddlers, I keep a little glass pump in the diaper area (and in the bathroom) filled with my own cloth wipe solution.

natural cloth baby wipe solution

1 cup water

1 Tbsp witch hazel

1 Tbsp aloe vera juice

1 tsp Dr Bronner’s baby soap

1 tsp olive oil

5-8 drops of essential oil (I use chamomile, lavender, distilled lemon, and eucalyptus radiata)

Mix em together and store in your glass pump bottle. Before use, give it a little shake and then dispense a pump or two onto your cloth wipe. Pre-soak wipes for travel and get yourself a cute little wipe bag to take on the go. I have this stuff stashed all over the house. When we battled thrush when Birdie was small I would add a couple drops of GSE to the mix, but be sure you’re actually dealing with thrush before you do that.

Also full disclosure, there’s no reason why you can’t put some in a perineal bottle and keep it in your own bathroom. I won’t tell.
